Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a torrid season, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - caused him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former coach his previous coach.

Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after that period of that year.

Victory also means Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at 21 various events.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's retrieving approach and regular emotional displays on court had led commentators to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the past month, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional victory, gained dominance to create a decider.

He rescued 4 early chances in a competitive deciding set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
