Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in P19, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's car P3, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
